Erika Craig received her bachelor’s degree in art at California State University Channel Islands in 2012, and she studied abroad in Paris. Despite dealing with chronic pain which has limited the use of her hands, painting remains a vital personal outlet for her.
Craig paints figures underwater, immersing her subjects in their surroundings. A person’s reflection in water is a constantly changing self, a distorted image with many sides. Near the surface, the familiar blends into the unknown. Color and shape break down. Things that seem separate become entwined. Craig’s work deals with realism and abstraction, boundaries and potential, the hidden subconscious and expanding consciousness.
Erika is a winner of the Driftless Unsolicited Cover Art Contest.
